The 4 horseman of products that keep the middle class in prison: 401K, home, credit cards, and college. How can a house be an investment? It produces no money. Investments produce money. People have a dream of getting a doormat that says “The Johnsons” and owning a home for 30 years. Assets pay you—liabilities are thing you pay for. A house is a liability. When you buy a home you pay for the following: Property taxes, Property insurance, Maintenance, and HOA Fees. The expenses are funded by the owner, not the income. Over the past 50 years, a home has returned 1% when adjusting for the rate of inflation. Get involved in multi-family real estate if you want to own a real asset.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. At TEDxIUM, Professor Bassem Kamar talks about a different kind of return on investment. Finance and politics are areas where we find today’s biggest investments, but they often lead to small, if any, returns. The biggest new return on investment is the result of our small but collective social actions.
Professor Bassem Kamar is currently a consultant with the International Monetary Fund, after spending five years as an economist with the IMF Institute for Capacity Development. Originally from Egypt, he is professor of Economics and Director of Research Dissemination at IUM. Additionally, he is the owner and General Manager of Global Economic and Finance Consulting, a company providing services to governments and international institutions such as the World Bank and the European Commission, among others. Mr. Kamar is the author of “Globalization and Exchange Rate Policies” and of numerous scientific articles.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
This video is about my tips on how I [try to] buy for investment.
I feel most safe with brands such as Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton – they are classic, and you can rewind 10-15 years and for all x3, they were desirable then and still are now – so we hope the trend continues 🙂
I avoid brands that seem to go in and out of favour; Gucci, Givenchy, Fendi for example.
Next; pick a bag from the brand you have chosen that is a classic shape. The longer it’s been around the better, IMO.
Some that I feel are safe ’no brainers‘:
LV: Speedy, Alma, Brea
Chanel : Classic flap
Dior : Lady Dior, or pretty much anything in the classic Cannage pattern
